Do You Hate
Going to the Dentist?
|
|
We can help you...
...with sedation
dentistry, you can stop the hate and fear of going to
the dentist.
The use of sedation allows you to have dental work that would normally
require 5-10 office visits. Not only that, most patients have no
memory of their procedures being done.
We regularly treat patients who:
have
bad memories of past dental visits
have
high anxiety and fear
haven't
seen the dentist in 5-30 years
have
extensive dental problems
are
embarrassed by the condition of their teeth
have
difficulties getting numb
have
a strong gag reflex
are
afraid of needles and shots
We welcome new patients, emergencies, and non-sedation patients.
Conscious Sedation
There have been recent advances in techniques and medications
used to prevent dental pain and anxiety. Today, there is usually
little
discomfort during dental visits. Trying to understand the various
drugs used for managing dental pain and anxiety can be confusing.
Some drugs help patients relax, some control pain and still others
"put you to sleep." We will consider a multitude of factors
when choosing which drugs should be used specifically for you.
The
type of procedure needed to be performed, your general health,
any medications that you are presently taking, your level of
anxiety are
all factors to be considered when determining what is the best
care for you.
Conscious sedation may involve the use of previously prescribed
analgesics, anti-anxiety agents, and /or sedatives in such a way
that you are able to achieve a greater level of sedation. Patients
who have been sedated in this fashion often feel as though they
have been asleep throughout their appointment.
Some people have no anxiety when undergoing treatment. Others
find it difficult to even enter the dentist's office. Over 50%
of the
population does not visit dentists for fear of dentistry. If you
are nervous or fearful about dental treatment, sedation can help
relax you, making your experience more pleasant.
Talk to us about your anxiety. That may be enough to relax you.
If not, there are many anti-anxiety drugs that can be used during
dental treatment. We can even give you one before your appointment,
to use if you have trouble sleeping the night before. If you are
given an anti-anxiety drug to take the night before, you should
arrange to be driven to and from the office. Also, avoid alcohol
and over-the-counter
sleep aids, because they can react with sedating medications.
