The Benefits of Invisalign for Teens

It is no secret life is stressful, especially for teens. Teens have to deal with hormones, acne, peer pressure and the rigors of academia. The discomfort and annoyance of metal braces is completely unnecessary. If your teen desires teeth straightening for enhanced beauty, there is no reason to use conventional metal braces. Metal braces can be awkward and have the potential to interfere with athletics and even your teen’s ability to play an instrument. The better solution is Invisalign Teen. Below, we explain why this treatment option is superior to braces.

Invisalign Teen is Translucent

Teenagers who rely on metal braces often complain about how this metal device looks. Teens are hyper-sensitive to how others perceive them. When your teen opens his or her mouth to talk, everyone in the room will see his or her braces. There is no reason to cause such embarrassment to your youngster when Invisalign Teen is available. This solution is transparent, meaning no one will be able to see Invisalign1 Teen unless they are within a few inches of your teen’s mouth. Only those who look very closely will be able to make out the faint outline of plastic. However, the aligners are nearly impossible to see. This translucency is essential to maintaining your teen’s self-image and self-esteem. Webster Orthodontics adds, “These aligners are smooth, comfortable to wear, and removable. That means you can continue your normal lifestyle without having to make any changes at all.”

Minimal Restrictions

Invisalign for teens does not interfere with your teen’s ability to enunciate words. Nor will your teen have any food restrictions when using Invisalign for teens. This is quite the contrast to metal braces that are comparably restrictive. Take a look at the list of foods you cannot eat after your braces are added and you will find everything from crackers to chips, popcorn, gummy candy, and caramel are on the list. Such foods damage metal braces by bending the wires, damaging the wires or even pushing brackets off the tooth.

The better approach is to opt for Invisalign for teens so your youngster can eat whatever he or she desires. The Invisalign aligners can be easily removed for eating. Your teen can remove the Invisalign aligner without the threat of damage and enjoy hard/sticky foods whenever desired.

Minimal Pain

Those who wear regular braces commonly complain of discomfort and pain. Conventional braces are uncomfortable to put in place. Furthermore, each adjustment has the potential to prove uncomfortable. In fact, some complain that having metal in their mouth is inherently uncomfortable. Extreme pain can result when a spacer is lodged or a wire breaks free from the bracket. Though Invisalign Teen has the potential to cause some minor soreness, it is nowhere near as painful as regular metal braces. Nothing has the potential to break free, scrape or cut the interior of your lips or gums.

Easy Maintenance

Invisalign wearers find this dental aid is remarkably easy to take care of. All you have to do is remove the aligner, brush it down, brush your teeth and replace the aligner. Clean your Invisalign aligner as instructed by your dentist and there is less of a chance to damage the teeth or spur the formation of cavities. Alternatively, when a teen’s braces are put in place, he or she is provided with specialized toothbrushes that facilitate the challenge of cleaning around the wires and brackets. Metal brackets have the potential to lead to cavities that even have the potential to form below the bracket. Cleaning traditional braces is difficult and time-consuming to the point that teens are willing to bypass the process or rush through the cleaning. This is precisely why so many teenagers are hesitant to use braces as opposed to Invisalign.

Invisalign for Teens Opens up Myriad Opportunities in Sports and Music

It is awfully sad that orthodontists often discourage patients from participating in specific contact sports or even playing an instrument as there is a heightened chance of damage to the braces. In particular, brass instruments, hockey, football, and soccer tend to be off-limits for those who wear braces. Each of these activities has the potential to cause a bracket or wire to dislodge. This is quite the stark contrast to Invisalign in which the teen is empowered to remove aligners when participating in athletics or keep them in place. It is certainly possible your teen will have to make some adjustments when playing his or her instrument while wearing an Invisalign aligner yet there will not be any pain when pressing the lips as there are no brackets.

Less Time in the Dentist’s Office

Though we like to think of our dentist’s office as welcoming, we are well aware of the fact that the average person dreads dental appointments. Opt for Invisalign as opposed to braces and you will spend that much less time at the dentist’s office.

Braces and other straightening solutions will chew up comparably more time as these options require more appointments than Invisalign. Furthermore, appointments to adjust braces take up more time than those required to check the integrity of Invisalign aligners and/or add new trays. This additional free time is good for you as well as the dentist. Think of all the ways you can use the time you would spend in the dentist’s office to enjoy life. You won’t have to break free from school or work to get your braces adjusted over and over again. As is commonly said, your time is your money so you should guard it closely.
